Michael Moynihan is a saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, teacher, producer, recording engineer, and mixing engineer residing in Tucson, Arizona. A devout Christian, Moynihan’s mission is to serve God through the awesome power of music by giving listeners a transcendental experience and offering a call to worship. Moynihan has toured, recorded, and performed professionally with many ensembles ranging in genre from jazz to hip-hop to afro-pop to rock and classical. He joined “The Lion of Zimbabwe,” Thomas Mapfumo and his band Blacks Unlimited, for tours in the UK, South Africa, and Botswana. As a resident woodwind artist aboard Princess Cruises, Moynihan traveled between Spain, Iceland, and the Caribbean performing shows and lounge dates on saxophone, flute, and clarinet. In May of 2022, Moynihan graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance. Since his graduation, Moynihan has become an in-demand saxophonist and woodwind doubler, performing as a sub with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, and a resident member of the Century Room Jazz Orchestra and the Tucson Latin Jazz Nonet.

             Moynihan is a prolific composer, songwriter, and recording artist. He has authored hundreds of songs and jazz compositions and has recorded and released over one hundred songs from his various projects. Always eclectic, Moynihan has released original music under several different artist aliases: The Michael Moynihan Quartet features straight-ahead jazz at its finest. Purple Spectre, an electric quintet, provides a new spin on jazz fusion. SON RISE offers an innovative take on Christian pop and rock. And bench sailor gives a fresh look at alternative pop, rock, soul, and hip-hop. All of Moynihan’s above projects are available for streaming on Spotify, Applemusic, Youtube, and all other major streaming services.

             Moynihan has just finished recording a new suite for jazz quartet entitled Offering. The piece features five movements based on the five types of Christian prayer: thanksgiving, adoration, confession, intercession, and supplication. He performed this piece as a part of his senior recital at the University of Arizona. Offering is scheduled for release on April 16, 2023!
